Hello again! I am now back on the blog after having my Thanksgiving break! A lot has happened in the past couple of weeks, but I'm going to stick to talking about what has gone on this week.

Here are five stories I dug up:

1. In Egypt, eight new mummies were unearthed. Three of them have been said to be in good condition. The mummies, which date from the Late Period of Ancient Egypt, may eventually be displayed at museums.

2. Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of Spongebob Squarepants, died on Monday from complications of ALS. He was 57. Hillenburg created a legacy for himself with his TV show. Spongebob is without a doubt one of the most recognizable cartoons characters, and new episodes are still being shown on Nickelodeon. The new Christmas special aired the night before Hillenburg past away.

3. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Leicester to pay tribute to the victims of a helicopter crash. The crash happened last month, killing five people. Among them was Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who was the chairman of the Leicester City Football Club. William and Kate had known Srivaddhanaprabha, and they wanted to visit the city to honor him and the other lives lost in he accident. Kate left a wreath and a card at the tribute site, and her and William also got to speak to players, families, and community members.

“Catherine and I wanted to visit Leicester to pay tribute to a man that we knew, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and those who died alongside him in October. Catherine and I also wanted to come to Leicester because of what the people of this city, and fans of this club, have shown us all over the last few weeks. You showed us that the losses experienced by other families need to be felt keenly by our own.”

4. Marc Lamont Hill, a political commentator, was fired by CNN. CNN released a statement saying that he was "no longer under contract" as of Thursday. Hill was let go after he made incendiary comments about Israel in a United Nations speech. Temple University, where Hill teaches, released a statement saying that while his comments are his own personal views and not those of the university, he does a right to say them as a private citizen.
5. This past weekend was big for Minnesota sports fans. After losing 14 seasons in a row to the Wisconsin Badgers, the Gophers won at Camp Randall stadium, and they were finally able to take home Paul Bunyan's Axe. This was also the first time since 1994 that the Gophers won at Badger territory. In addition to the Gopher's win, the Minnesota Viking also defeated the Green Bay Packers Sunday night, marking this the first time that the Gophers and the Vikings beat the Badgers and the Packers on the same weekend.
