What an week it has been in the news! Here are five stories in case you missed them:

1. The California Camp Fire in northern California has left over 60 people dead. Also, the list of those missing has grown to over 600 people. Rescue workers are looking for more survivors, and hope that many of the individuals unaccounted for are still alive. This comes after two major wildfires started in California last week, not only taking the lives of many people but also many homes as well. Even celebrities have lost their homes to the fire.

2. Avigdor Lieberman resigns from position as Israel's defense minister. The news comes after Israel and Gaza had a ceasefire. Lieberman said that his choice to resign was "surrendering to terror." early elections could occur as a result of his resignation.

3. After the White House took away CNN reporter Jim Acosta's credentials, CNN filed a lawsuit. Today, Judge Kelly of the Federal District Court in Washington ruled in favor of CNN, saying that the White House must restore Acosta's press credentials. While the decision is a victory for CNN as well as other news outlets, Judge Kelly made it clear that he didn't determine if the First Amendment was violated, and the White House has the option to appeal if it so chooses.

4. Stan Lee, the creator of many well-beloved comic books, died at the age of 95. He left a lasting legacy on the world, both with his comic book characters as well as the many cameos he made in television and in film. Many fans sent their condolences, as well as the companies he has worked with, like Marvel and the Walt Disney Company, who honored him in a statement. His death was released in a statement by his family, who also thanked fans for their well wishes.

“Stan was an icon in his field. His fans loved him and his desire to interact with them. He loved his fans and treated them with the same respect and love they gave him.”
-a statement released by the Lee family

5. Jacob DeGrom, a pitcher for the New York Mets, wins the 2018 NL Cy Young Award. The Baseball Writers' Association of America announced that DeGrom won 29 out of 30 first-place votes, with National's pitcher Max Scherzer taking the other vote. DeGrom's award comes as no surprise after his record-breaking season, where he had the lowest ERA of MLB pitchers, and he also gave up 3 runs or less in 29 consecutive starts, which is the longest streak in MLB history. DeGrom also won the award despite having a 10-9 record, marking this the fewest amount of wins for a Cy Young recipient.
