Here are 5 stories that you missed if you were too busy focusing on Halloween:

1. Saturday, a man entered the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Penn. and opened fire, killing 11 people and wounding six. The suspect was charged with 29 counts. This horrific event, which was immediately labeled a hate crime, is the deadliest attack on the Jews in the United States.

“This was the single most lethal and violent attack on the Jewish community in the history of the country. We’ve never had an attack of such depravity where so many people were killed. . . . When you go into a synagogue, saying ‘I want to kill all the Jews,’ that’s a hate crime.”
- Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO and national director of the Anti-Defamation League

2. Lion Air flight JT610, which crashed 13 minutes after takeoff Monday and is presumed to have taken the lives of all 189 passengers, experienced problems on its previous flight. Sunday night, the pilot of the same Boeing 737 Max 8 jet contacted air control saying there was a problem, but later said that it was resolved. That flight had experienced erratic speeds, which is believed to have been the same case for the flight that crashed. The plane was only a few months old, and could be causing issues for Boeing's new set of planes.

3. A car hit three people on Halloween while they were trick or treating in Bayonne, New Jersey. The injuries appear to be non-life-threatening, despite people saying on social media that there were more serious injuries. Halloween can be known as one of the scariest times of the year for pedestrians, and this accident proves that.

4. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had a joint engagement visiting Coach Core Essex. The program works to engage the community in sports, which William and Kate to take part in during their visit.

5. A cheerleader on the 49ers took a knee during the national anthem before a game vs the Oakland Raiders. The taking a knee movement was started in 2016 by former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who was joined by a teammate, as well as other NFL players. This is the first known public occurrence where a cheerleader took a knee.
